VSDA Announces Game-Related Rental Awards
July 28, 2005
The Home Entertainment Awards, presented by the Video Software
Dealers Association (VSDA), have awarded honors to top console
game titles in recognition of outstanding achievement in home
entertainment. The yearly awards were announced at VSDA’s
annual Home Entertainment 2005 convention at the Bellagio Hotel
& Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Although largely related to DVD video releases, awards were also
presented for rental-friendly games for the big three consoles.
Nintendo’s Mario Party 6 won as GameCube Video Game of the
Year, SCEA’s Gran Turismo 4 took the PlayStation 2 Video
Game of the Year award, and Microsoft’s Halo 2 received
the Xbox Video Game of the Year award.
The awards categories and nominees were determined by the VSDA’s
Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, comprised of retailers,
distributors, and journalists. Winners were determined by the
votes of video retailers that are VSDA members. 120 nominations
were submitted for awards in 24 categories, with committee members
taking into consideration the rental and sales success of each
title and the strength of the marketing campaign launched by the
studio or distributing label of the title, both to consumers and
to retailers.
The VSDA, a non-profit international trade association for the
home entertainment industry, represents over 1,000 home video
and game companies.
